Nigerian Army to Defend Democracy, Hard on Forces of Destabilization

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, has cautioned officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army to ensure the nation’s democracy is not truncated by any person or group.

Lieutenant-General Buratai, made this remark when he met with Principal Staff Officers, General Officers Commanding and Field Commanders in Abuja.

According to the army spokesman, Sagir Musa, who briefed reporters on the outcome of the meeting, Buratai was quoted as saying that this system of governance is a democracy, and we must all ensure that Nigeria’s democracy remains stable and steady, stressing that there will be no room for disloyalty among all officers and soldiers of the army.

Speaking on behalf of the army chief, the spokesman for the Army, Colonel Sagir Musa explained that, the legitimate agitation by the EndSars protesters has been hijacked and hoodlums have had a field day looting and destroying properties.

Colonel Musa adds that, hijackers had perfected a plot to call out the army, in a manner similar to what was done against the police. He says the army is being vilified for carrying out its legitimate duty, in the wake of the protest.

Buratai alleged that some criminally minded persons have hijacked the #EndSARS protest and are taking advantage of the demonstration to stir violence in the country.

He added that such persons which he described as detractors, alongside their local and international collaborators, have deliberately misrepresented troops’ efforts to ensure compliance with the curfew imposed by legitimate civil authorities in Lagos and other states as a result of the violence.

The Chief of Army Staff however warned that he will not tolerate any act of disloyalty by officers and men of the army.
