Nine die in Ekori auto accident in Cross River
Nine persons were reported dead when a trailer load of cement fell on a Siena bus with eight passengers onboard and the driver Mr. Bassey Loways from Ekori in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The incident which has caused gridlock along Ibiaye in Biase Local Government Area was due to the bad state of the Ikom- Calabar highway.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that the trailer with registration number FST-135-XW lost control while trying to avoid bad portions of the road at full speed which prompted the fatal accident.
In a subsequent development, the Inspector General of Police –IGP- has ordered the Cross River State Commissioner of Police to compel the Divisional Police Officer-DPO- to arrest and bring two mobile officers who beat and dehumanized an unarmed civilian with a machete to the force headquarters with immediate effect.
The directive came after a viral video shared online showed the two officers flogging and torturing a young man with a machete despite pleas from eyewitnesses on Monday, August 1st, 2022 which prompted public rage that caused IGP Usman Baba to order their arrest and transfer to Force Headquarters on or before Wednesday, August 3, 2022, through the Cross River State command Police Commissioner.
