Nnaghe Obono Itam assumes duty as 34th CP, Anambra

Anambra State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty of CP Nnaghe Obono Itam as the 34th Commissioner of Police of the Command.

This information is contained in a press statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga which was made available to journalists in Awka on Monday.

According to the statement, CP Itam takes over from CP Aderemi Adeoye, who retired from the service on May 1, 2024, after 35 years of service.

Itam, born on 16th June 1967 in Yakkur Local Government Area of Cross River State, joined the Nigeria Police Force on 18, May,1992 as a cadet Assistant Superintendent.

He holds a BSc degree in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Calabar and a Master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Port Harcourt.

Before his posting to Anambra, he had served in various states across the Federation.

Among his previous positions was his service as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Export Processing Zone Authority, Calabar, and Directing Staff and Instructor, Police Detective College, Agbani Road, Enugu.

He was also Commanding Officer, 25 Police Mobile Force Squadron, Head of the Counter-Terrorism and General Investigations, EFCC Lagos, Coordinator of Courses, EFCC Academy, Karu, Abuja, Zonal Director/Head of Operations, EFCC Port Harcourt and Director of Internal Affairs, EFCC Headquarters, Abuja,” the statement indicated.

As a Deputy Commissioner of Police, he was once the coordinator of Police service delivery, SERVICOM, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Investigations Zone 11, covering Oyo and Osun State.

He was Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, responsible for review and internal Security governance in Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.

Before his posting to Anambra, he was Commissioner of Police in charge of General Investigation Force Criminal Investigation Annex, Kaduna.

The statement indicated that Itam is also a recipient of many awards and honors, including the best-graduating student in Edanada Secondary School class 1983, best graduating student University of Calabar Department of Sociology and Anthropology class 1990, as well as the United Nations Medal of Service, 2002/2003.

He is also an ordained Pastor of the Foundation Faith Church, Salem Family worldwide.

In his reaction to the development, the new Commissioner of Police said he is seeking the support and cooperation of the general public in combatting crime in the state, pledging commitment to implementing proactive policing strategies and community policing to ensure a safer Anambra State.
