…” No teacher or head teacher will dare reject transfer to any school” _ Education Board head
The permanent secretary in charge of Secondary Education Board in Cross River State, Mr. Eyo Offiong has said over the weekend when he received the delegation of NUJ executives and the 2025 media week celebration committee that henceforth, no headmaster or head teacher can reject posting to rural or any other part of the State.
He said the board is no longer passive on issues of teachers rejecting posting to other schools they do not like.
Before now, there were allegations and media reports of bribe scandals, and teachers in the state civil service payroll refusing to serve in remote communities, even as others were stagnated.
Offiong stated that no teacher can accuse him of accepting or encouraging bribe taking before their official papers are processed.
He said: “Every teacher or head teacher in Cross River State is now getting his due attention and posting without necessarily bribing me or my officials.
“They know that I am not out for such. I don’t in any way encourage bribing of any sort. I do ensure that what is due anyone gets to him or her without condoning illegalities or favouritism.
“This is why no teacher or head teacher will dare reject transfer to any school.
“I have received commendation from the State governor and other dignitaries for revamping the Cross River State Education Board.”
He vowed to further reposition the Board and sustain the tempo of work as well as creating more conducive workplace environment for staff.
And responding, the chairman of NUJ in the State, Comrade Archibong Bassey commended Offiong’s commitment and diligent leadership at the board, assuring that her Union will always highlight issues affecting them.
