NRM stakeholder in Cross River defects to APC

Mathias Akpelishi Amgbah, the deputy governorship candidate candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) in the 2023 general elections on Saturday July 20, 2024 defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, alongside his loyal supporters in Obudu local government area.

This overwhelming shift in allegiance is poised to reshape the state’s political landscape, as the APC welcomes the influx of new members with open arms. Amgbah’s decision to switch camp is seen as a significant leverage for the APC to bolster its chances in upcoming elections like the next local government polls in the state.

The defection ceremony, witnessed by thousands was a spectacle of political unity and solidarity. Amgbah, accompanied by his supporters was warmly received by APC leaders who pledged to work together towards a common goal.

A state executive member Ralph Aniah said, “We are thrilled to welcome Mathias Akpelishi Amgbah and his supporters to our party. This defection is a testament to our commitment to inclusivity and progress.”

“Amgbah’s decision to join us is a clear indication of our party’s growing popularity and acceptance in Cross River State,” an APC ward chairman Angiaba Begiaka ward said in his narrative at the event.

According to Mr. Ushie Collins, an APC party stalwart in the chapter who stood in for the APC state chairman, Barr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba, said this massive defection is expected to have far-reaching implications, shaping the state’s future for generations to come. Political analysts predict a significant shift in the balance of power, as the APC consolidates its position.

Fielding questions from newsmen in Calabar on Tuesday July 23, 2024, the decampee, Mr. Mathias Amgbah popularly called “MATETE” in the political arena promised to bring his wealth of experience to bear in any political office the APC may offer him to serve to drive the people first season of sweetness mantra of Governor Bassey Edet Otu.
