NUJ commends Rep for siting solar powered borehole at press center

The Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Cross River State Council, Mr Victor Udu on Tuesday hailed Hon. Eta Mbora, member Representing Cabalar/Odukpani Federal Constituency for siting a Solar Powered Borehole at the NUJ Press Center Calabar.

The Chairman spoke to journalists in Calabar while inspecting the progress of work at the site.

Udu said the decision by the Honorable member to choose the Press Center for his Constituency project speaks volumes of his concern for the ordinary people.

“This is amazing and we deeply appreciate this gesture. It goes to show that he appreciates the role of the media in nation-building.

“This is a big way of giving back to society. I am happy; the entire Journalists in the State are happy over this project, ” he said.

Udu said though the project is meant for all people living in the vicinity, sitting it inside NUJ premises would ensure sustainability and better service to the people.

Also speaking, Mrs Eme Offiong, Chairperson of the Correspondents Chapel described the project as a very encouraging and welcoming development.

‘In fact, I cannot wait for it to be concluded. It is indeed a big relief because for quite a long time there has been no pipe-borne water in Calabar.

“With this now, NUJ and residents around will have a normal flow of water. It is really a huge relief. God will bless him, ” she said.

Mr Anuejan Abasi, another Journalist said the project was a payback to hard work by the media.

“It is is a clarion call to politicians and generally leaders at all levels. Journalists should be seen as partners in development rather than been seen as enemies of progress, ” he said.

The project which has reached over 40 percent completion is one of the Constituency projects being undertaken by the lawmaker representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
