Oba of Benin Broker Truce With Political Parties in Edo State
The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has brokered a truce by meeting with candidates of the different political parties who are contesting in the September 19 governorship election in Edo State.
The monarch who is visibly troubled by the escalating politically induced violence in the state at the moment said a peace pact will allow party leaders to talk to their followers to shun violence throughout the period leading to the election on September 19. The bottom line of the discourse is for concerned parties to sign the peace pact.
The campaign activities of the two major political parties in contention, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and the main opposition, All Progressives Congress have recorded multiple degrees of violence warranting accusations and finger pointing from both sides.
