OBA: The Stone The Builders Rejected Has Become The Cornerstone
As the March 11, 2023, gubernatorial election in Akwa Ibom State approaches, the fame and acceptability of Senator Bassey Albert Akpan (OBA) CON, the candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) to emerge as the next Governor is brightening by the day.
Anxiety fills the air as Akwa Ibomites and residents alike discuss the ongoing electioneering campaigns. Senator Albert has sensationally become the most popular governorship candidate. The electorate desires him to win the governorship poll.
OBA, as he is fondly called, started his political journey under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and served in the administration of Governor Godswill Akpabio as the Commissioner of Finance from 2007-2014. The impact of his services in government was thunderous, fetching him many laurels within and outside the state.
In addition, Senator Albert’s footprint in the educational sector in the State is huge. As chairman of the Inter-ministerial Direct Labour Committee, everyone in the state can easily recall that schools across the 31 Local Government Areas had new classroom blocks with a red rooftop – a feat yet to be equaled even by the present administration.
As Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East (Uyo) Senatorial District, OBA, through his sterling performance, earned the sobriquet, “Senator of Akwa Ibom State.” This was even pronounced by the State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel during the commissioning of the Senator Albert Multi-purpose Recreational and Event Centre on Saturday, January 29, 2022. Governor Emmanuel eulogized OBA as the most performing Senator in Akwa Ibom State.
In his days as a PDP member, OBA had paid the price, showed commitment and competency, and delivered his services diligently. He had every qualification to be given the mandate as the gubernatorial flag bearer of the PDP but the Governor and his cabal surprisingly etched him out. Instead, they chose a very controversial character, Pastor Umo Eno, whose emergence instantly led to the disintegration of the PDP in Akwa Ibom State.
The development is akin to the prophetic remark recorded in Mark 12:10 “…The stone which the builders rejected becomes the head of the corner.” As OBA moved to the Young Progressives Party (YPP) to pick up the gubernatorial ticket, hundreds of thousands of members and supporters of PDP and other political parties in Akwa Ibom State joined him in droves.
Today, the hitherto unknown and unpopular party – YPP has become the most celebrated in Akwa Ibom. Incredibly, the green leaves being the party’s symbol, are now seen everywhere in Akwa Ibom State. Under the party, OBA, the stone the builders rejected has now become Chief Corner Stone as his candidacy is what the masses across Akwa Ibom State prefer and not a stooge positioned by the incumbent administration.
PDP had all the opportunity to keep OBA in their party but they rejected him because of their selfish interest. So why this jealousy, envy and strive against the same man you did not reckon with?
Why the regret now? You thought denying him the ticket will kill his political career, NO!!! OBA is loved by all and there is absolutely nothing you can do to change the mindset of the Akwa Ibom people.
Remember the saying, “opportunity comes but once, make good use of the opportunity or live a regretful life. This is the dearth of the PDP and a great lesson to others. It goes as a recap of the story of Gideon and the Midianites. God said unto Gideon “the people that are with you are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunts themselves against me, saying, mine own hand hath save me” – Judges 6. So God does not necessarily use a larger platform to render his wonders but can do so with the smallest one.
OBA’s exit from PDP was the plan of God for His purpose for Akwa Ibomites to come to manifestation through him. No matter what any man does, you can’t change the plan of the supernatural. OBA is the next Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
YPP are God’s children and they fear Him. The party is not discriminatory. Why not join the winning team today and partake in the testimony tomorrow?
Your vote for YPP will end unemployment, mismanagement of funds, hardship, a cabal administration, audio industries, audio scholarship, bad road network and bad continuity.

Vote wisely, vote OBA, YPP. Vote for restoration, liberation and reconciliation.
