Obi cancels guber campaign trips, heads to court for ruling on BVAS inspection case

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi says he will be heading to court to challenge INEC’s refusal to allow the party to inspect materials used during the presidential election.

The court of appeal had earlier granted leave to Obi to have access to all the sensitive materials used by INEC.

Recall INEC had requested the court to vary the order, saying the bimodal voter accreditation system (BVAS) needs to be reprogrammed ahead of March 11.

But counsel to Obi Onyechi Ikpeazu said the essence of the application was to enable them extract data embedded in the BVAS machines which represented the actual results from polling units.

Ikpeazu, prayed the court to allow them to conduct a physical inspection of all the BVAS that was used for the presidential election, as this is to ensure that the evidence is preserved before the BVAS are reconfigured by INEC, adding that if they are wiped out, it will affect the substance of the case.

Obi has asked supporters of the party to vote candidates on the labour party platform.
