Obi identifies bad leadership as Nigeria’s bane, supporters hold mega rally in Onitsha, others
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, is of the opinion that bad leadership has seriously damaged Nigeria.
The former Anambra State governor said it is time for Nigerians to rescue the country and put an end to bad governance.
Obi made these assertions on Sunday in Toronto, Canada, where he engaged Nigerians resident in Canada in an interactive town hall session regarding the future of Nigeria.
Speaking on his political drive for 2023 and what he and his team will do to transform the nation, Mr Obi said the vision and mission is to give full expression to “our democracy by moving our country from consumption to production”.
In transforming the economy, he disclosed that his party “intends to make the economy more productive, thus creating employment and prosperity for millions of youths, reducing poverty in the land, and addressing issues of criminality and insecurity.
Meanwhile, supporters of the presidential bid of the Labour Party candidate Peter Obi have held a rally in the commercial city of Onitsha in Anambra State, shutting down most streets in the city.
Young men and women donning white polo shirts with Obi’s picture and inscription of his party started gathering at Zik Avenue at around 11:30 am, from where they moved to other parts of the town.
The group held banners with several inscriptions supporting Obi and marched peacefully along most streets, terminating at the Chinua Achebe’s Stadium, Fegge, Onitsha.
Convener of the rally, Chibuike Akpotue, who addressed supporters said they want to show the world that Obi has their support.
The groups tagged the rally, ‘Onitsha mega rally: The mother of all rallies’ caused gridlock with many motorists diverting to other routes as the supporters sang Obi’s praise during the long trek.
Also, lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi while discussing the upcoming 2023 elections on the Morning Show on Monday, stated that he will be supporting Peter Obi based on federal Character.
According to Farotimi, “There is an issue I believe needs to be addressed, Nigeria claims to be a federation and one of the foundations of that federation is federal character. That federal character did not come recently, it’s something that has been in our constitution as far back as 1954.
“Going by that, as far as I am concerned, I cannot look beyond an Igbo candidate in this race, and thanks to God there is an eminently qualified Igbo candidate in this race and that is who I will be supporting.”
