My dear brothers and sisters,
It is with profound humility that I pen this to appreciate the trust you have placed in me as your newly elected Council Chairman – a position that is at your doorstep when you consider the logic, which we subscribe to, that Councils are the closest to the people.
Our victory at the just concluded polls is a demonstration of our shared hope for a better future, which as individuals, and collectively, have pledged in different ways, to work tirelessly to ensure this becomes a reality.
In the midst of this moment of celebration, I want to reaffirm my promises during the campaigns, which include, but are not limited to, the following upon assumption of office;
1. Prioritizing the needs of the most vulnerable and marginalized communities.
2. Establishing a participatory governance and budgeting process, ensuring every community has a voice in shaping our priorities.
In line with our track record, we acknowledge the need for specificity and concrete examples. In light of that, I assure you that in the coming weeks, we will unveil plans, far more detailed than what we shared initially for our programs, infrastructure development initiatives, and citizen engagement platforms.
We pledge to serve with integrity, compassion, and unwavering dedication to our collective well-being, hence, our commitment to inclusivity and social justice will be unwavering. To achieve this, there is a need for accessibility. Therefore, we commit to regular engagements, where citizens can discuss in detail, directly with me and my team. We will also work on a dedicated feedback mechanism, ensuring that your concerns and ideas are promptly addressed.
As your Council Chairman, I will remain committed to listening and learning – a process that all humans never cease to participate in. Our administration will prioritize transparency, accountability, and social justice in all our endeavors.
To my fellow contestants and those with differing views, I extend an olive branch. You will agree with me that while contests may not bring out the best in us, there is a need to put aside our differences and work together to build a better Obudu for all. Your insights and expertise are invaluable and will always be welcomed.
Thank you for holding me accountable in advance. Together, let us build an Obudu that works for everyone. According to Hon. Sir, Peter Undiandeye.
