Oku Ibom Ibibio mourns Mbang; says world lost a renowned cleric, shepherd, inspiring leader

Oku Ibom Ibibio and President General of Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Council, His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk, CFR has mourned the death of Dr. Sunday Mbang Prelate Emeritus of the Methodist Church, Nigeria.

Etuk condoled with the immediate family, the Methodist Church of Nigeria and indeed the global Christian community on the demise of the sage.

Ntenyin Etuk, reacting to the news of his death at the age of 86 said the world has indeed lost a renowned cleric, shepherd and inspiring leader. He noted that having lived a fulfilled life, “It is a rest from earthly labour and a blissful return to his maker, the Almighty God.”

“It is very devastating news that our world renowned cleric, shepherd and inspiring leader, the Prelate Emeritus of the Methodist Church, Nigeria, Dr. Sunday Mbang, CON has passed away.

“His passage is really a great loss for the family and us all. As we can rightly acknowledge, he lived a very impactful and fulfilled life within and outside the Christendom that will certainly keep his memory in our minds forever. As he has transited, it is a rest from earthly labour and a blissful return to his maker, the Almighty God,” the patriarch added.

Within the Methodist Church Nigeria, the late Mbang was the only person to be both Patriarch and Prelate and the longest serving Head of Methodist Church Nigeria.

He was also first black President of World Methodist Council, first Methodist President of Christian Association of Nigeria and co- Chairman of Nigerian Inter- Religious Council,– positions that he used in growing the Christian faith, peace across the nation and the world and most especially good governance, equity and justice in Nigeria.
