Ondo Kiling: Akeredolu cancels Democracy Day celebration; Soyinka says message to South-West
The Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has cancelled this year’s Democracy Day celebration in the state in honour of those who lost their lives during terrorist attacks on worshippers at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, on Sunday.
Akeredolu announced this through a series of tweets on his Twitter handle, saying the cancellation was to allow Ondo people to mourn the deceased.
The State Government had given a new casualty figure from the terrorist attack on worshippers at the church as 127 with 40 con confirmed dead.
Meanwhile, Nobel Laureate and renowned playwright, Prof . Wole Soyinka, has described the attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State, where many worshippers were killed, as a message to the entire people of South-West.
Soyinka who made his view known while paying a condolence visit to Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu over the terror attack last Sunday said it was targeted at the governor who has been showing leadership in terms of internal liberation of his people.
Akeredolu in return, thanked the Nobel laureate for the visit, saying that the state would remain hugely indebted to him.
