Osinbajo, Obasanjo, others attend burial of former Attorney-General, Ajibola

The remains of Ajibola had earlier been brought to his residence at the Olusegun Obasanjo Hilltop Estate, Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital

The body was brought in at about 10:50am in an Ebony motor hearse along with family members from Lagos where the legal luminary breathed his last.

The legal luminary was buried today according to Muslim rite.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo arrived at the venue at about 4.57pm. other high-profile attendees were former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Ogun state Governor Olusegun Oshoba.

Bola Ajibola, former Attorney General and the Minister of Justice of Nigeria and a Judge of the International Court of Justice, is dead. He died in the early hours of Sunday 9th April, 2023 at the age of 89.

He was the President of the Nigerian Bar Association from 1984 to 1985. He was also one of five commissioners on the Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Commission, organized through the Permanent Court of Arbitration.

He was the High Commissioner of Nigeria to the United Kingdom from 1999 to 2002.

Bola Ajibola was a Prince from Owu in Abeokuta and founded an Islamic and co-educational institution, Crescent University, in Abeokuta, Ogun State in 2005.

The former judge of the International Court of Justice, Hague, Netherlands, died at 89.

The eldest child of the late jurist, Segun Ajibola, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abeokuta.

According to the statement, Ajibola, the founder of Crescent University, Abeokuta, died early Sunday.

“This is to announce the passing on of our revered and dearly beloved father, Judge AbdulJabbar Bolasodun Adesumbo Ajibola which occurred over the midnight today, April 9, 2023.

“Judge Ajibola will always be remembered as an icon of Law and Judicature, an embodiment of both the Bar and the Bench.

“Judge Ajibola not only served nationally and internationally, he is warmly loved in his homestead of Abeokuta where he held the traditional title of Oluomo of Egbaland and Olori Omo Oba of Owu Kingdom.

“We pray that Almighty Allah will pardon his shortcomings, accept his return and grant him a lofty station among His honoured friends in Paradise (Jannatul Firdaus),” the statement read.

Born on March 22, 1934 in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Ajibola attended Baptist Boys High School, Oke Saje, Abeokuta and University of London.

Ajibola was appointed the High Commissioner of Nigeria to the United Kingdom from 1999 to 2002.
