Otu vows to restore water supply in Cross River at 2024 World Water Day celebration

The hitherto epileptic water supply in Cross River towns and urban areas would soon be a thing of the past as Governor Bassey Edet Otu has promised to restore normal and un-interrupted water supply in the State leveraging on the surrounding water which is sublime for potable drinking water.

Otu made the commitment on Friday 22, 2024 in his keynote address at the 2024 World Water Day celebration held at Transcorp Hotels, Calabar to mark the global event.

The programwhich was spiced with a drama sketch by guest artistes, commenced with a road walk from Mary Slessor roundabout to project the challenges facing the Ministry of Water Resources in its quest to restore potable water supply in Calabar Metropolis and environs.

Represented by Anthony Owan Enoh, Secretary to the State Government (SSG) dwelt on the critical role water plays in the prosperity, health and peace in the world said the commemoration of World Water Day is to emphasize the achievement of SDG’s 6 and 16 which is in line with the theme of this year’s event “WATER FOR PEACE”.

In his contribution, the Managing Director of Cross River State Basin Development Authority (CRBDA) Engr. Nkposong Bassey which collaborated with the Cross River State Ministry of water resources to organize the event, called on individuals to make good use of water and avoid wastage as water is life.

Barrister Bassey Offiong Mensah, the State Commissioner for Water Resources mentioned broken pipes and equipment vandalization as bane receding water restoration in the State. He urged citizens and residents to play a role in the safety of equipment in their domains.

Dignitaries at the occasion were members of the State Executive Council whose goodwill message was presented by Hon. Commissioner for Information, Mr. Erasmus Ekpang while the permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, Mbang Atu Ausaji and Public Relations Officer in the Ministry Mr. Henry Ntaji thanked all invitees and the press for gracing the occasion.

Other goodwill messages were presented by stakeholders in the water sector and development partners in the State.
