PDP kicks at LG election timetable announced by CROSIEC
Cross River State chairman, Peoples Democratic Party Barrister Venatius Ikem has frowned at the date for local government election announced by the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC).
According to CROSIEC Chairman, Dr. Ekong Boco on Wednesday, September 25, the election will be held on October 26th 2024 in the time table and schedule of activities signed by Dr. Lawrence Edu, Esq, Secretary to the Commission.
Barrister Ikem in a swift reaction said the Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem who presided over the process lacked the locus standi to officiate on the matter as he was impeached thus rendering the exercise null and void in law.
CROSIEC said in exercise of the power vested on the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (As Amended), Cross River State law No. 2 (2002) as Amended, the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) hereby issues the time table and schedule for Local Government Elections to be held in the state and citizens, political parties and stakeholders are advised to prepare for the elections.
This includes verifying voter registration, status, familiarizing themselves with electoral guidelines and engaging in civil education initiatives.
According to Dr. Boco, this development sets the stage for a crucial electoral process that will shape governance at the grassroot.
