PDP slams Ayade for owing civil servants in Cross River State

The People’s Democratic Party in Cross River State has blamed Governor Ben Ayade for being insensitive to the plight of the suffering civil servants.

PDP State Publicity Secretary Prince Mike Ojisi corroborated Mr. Tony Edako, The State Secretary of the party Mr Tony Edako described the action of the Cross River State government as not only shocking but unexpected in a theatre of lies. His view was corroborated by Prince Mike Ojisi, PDP State Publicity Secretary.

On Tuesday over 1700 Civil Servants protested and blocked the entrance to the state secretariat over the non-payment of their five years’ arrears of salary by the Cross River State government since 2017/2018.

The protesting workers who were led by Mr. Raphael Antigha lamented that despite their repeated appeals to the government to address the issue, the government instead has ignored them and many have died due to hunger and sickness.

But in a swift reaction, the Head of Service, Mr. Timothy Ogbang Akwaji said the state government is not owing workers’ salaries and pensions as peddled by some persons as it has paid all salaries and pensions up to date to workers on the state payroll..

Meanwhile, the State PDP Chairman Barrister Venatius Ikem has lifted the embargo on political activities in line with the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission for Candidates wishing to contest the 2023 Local Government Elections to start political engagements with the electorates but said after a stakeholder meeting at the PDP state secretariat that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will not participate in the polls if the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) is not used.

He promised to use every legal means to make the exercise transparent according to electoral best practices to deepen the democratic process.

In another development, the gubernatorial candidate of the Party in the 2023 governorship Elections Senator (Prof.) Sandy Onor is to undertake a road match to reclaim Cross River State on Thursday, August 25, 2022.

The walk is expected to commence from 11-11 axis along Calabar road to terminate at the Reclaim-Back Cross River State Secretariat in Calabar.
