PHED Partners NDPHC to supply 100MW excess power from Odukpani Plant to Calabar

The management of Port Harcourt Electricity Company (PHED) says it has entered agreement with the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) to supply 100MW of excess power from Odukpani power plant to Calabar Metropolis and its environs.

PHED Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Henry Ajabhawa disclosed this in Calabar last week during the flag off of awareness campaign intended to address the challenges of electricity consumers in Calabar.

The MD/CEO who was represented by the Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Solomon Okopi said that network optimization will be carried out in order to rehabilitate the network and increase the network capacity to meet 24/7 supply to Calabar.

According to him, the projects have since begun and one phase has been completed. The construction of one unit of 15MVA (1X5 MVA) at Adiabo in Odukpani LGA he hinted has been completed.

He disclosed as well that PHED is to construct a substation at Akpabuyo LGA, with a view to showing its commitment to resolving the community’s electricity challenges.

He further said PHED will install Smart Meters for Customers and that about 120,000 meters have been earmarked at this stage and would arrive in a few months from now.

Dr Henry Ajabhawa, appealed to customers and stakeholders to see this move as a vital scheme to boost electricity supply in Cross River State and in its franchise states of Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom.

He also appealed to them to recharge their bill or recharge their pre-paid meters at the right time to enable the Disco serve them better.

Ajabhawa also solicited the support against energy theft and acts of vandalism or attacks on PHED personnel on legitimate assignments.

He reasoned that such attacks amount to setbacks in the entire energy value chain as well as serious acts of economic sabotage.
