Police confirm killing of officer by unknown gunmen in Calabar; Officer stabs colleague to death in Kebbi

An Assistant Superintendent of Police in Kebi State (ASP), Abdullahi Garba has stabbed his colleague, ASP Shu’aibu Sani-Malunfashi to death following a heated argument.

The Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nafi’u Abubakar, in a statement, explained that the two officers had an altercation that degenerated into a fight in front of Garba’s shop, and said that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident has begun as ordered by the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Magaji-Kontagora.

The statement explained that the CP had condemned the unfortunate incident, describing it as contrary to the training, acts, and regulations of the police force, as well as other relevant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In a related development, the Cross River Police Command has confirmed that one of its personnel, Sgt. Peter Ikwen, was killed on Saturday by unknown gunmen at Edgerton Street, Calabar.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with NAN.

“I have just gathered that a police sergeant was shot dead by unknown gunmen in the early hours of today (Saturday) and his rifle was taken away by the assailants,” she said.

She said an investigation has begun with a view to unraveling those behind the act which, she described, as condemnable.
