The Concerned Citizens of Rivers State’ has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it termed fatherly and timely intervention in the political crisis of Rivers State.

In a press statement Thusday titled ‘No sacrifice is too much for peace’, signed by sixteen concerned citizens of Rivers State, the group comprising of professionals, activists, community leaders, businessmen, and women, said the the president’s intervention has mollified the tension in the State and provided a leeway for the peaceful and amicable resolution of the dispute between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike and the governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara.

The group said it has appraised the resolutions reached at the mediatory meeting and concluded that the outcome is a win-win situation; no victor, no vanquished!

The statement partly reads: “We salute the nationalistic bearing of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his political sagacity, wisdom, and deep-rooted love for the nation, and our democracy. Certainly, a Daniel come to judgment!

“We equally commend the Honorable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, and Governor Siminalayi Fubara for submitting themselves to Mr. President’s mediation. We urge both parties to conscientiously uphold and abide by the terms of the peace deal. We urge them to leverage Mr. President’s intervention, put aside their differences, and bury the hatchet, to advance the peace, security, progress, and development of our dear Rivers State.”

The group said it is conscious of the fact that if the situation precipitates a full-blown crisis, it will be the people of Rivers State who will bear the brunt of the consequences.

It therefore, called on the residents of the state irrespective of their inclinations, especially, the youths, to shun all actions, assertions, and tendencies that would reignite the settling crisis.

On Monday former Governor Wike and Governor Fubara, the two critical stakeholders in the political crisis rocking Rivers State have agreed to resolve the weeks-long conflict.

The decision was taken at a meeting President Bola Tinubu held with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, a former governor of the state, Peter Odili, and the immediate past Governor, Nyesom Wike, and other stakeholders at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

Also present at the meeting was the Vice President, Kashim Shettima; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.

According to a resolution signed Monday, the President directed that all matters instituted in the courts by the governor and his team in respect of the political crisis be withdrawn immediately.

Also, all impeachment proceedings initiated against the governor by the state House of Assembly should be dropped immediately.

Given the inhabitable state of the Rivers State House of Assembly building, Tinubu directed that the lawmakers “shall choose where they want to sit and conduct their legislative business without interference and/or hindrance from the Executive arm of government.”

Also, Fubara, who had earlier presented the 2024 Appropriation Bill of his state to four members of the Assembly “shall re-present the state budget to a properly constituted Rivers State House of Assembly.”
