Presidential Election: Atiku leads PDP protest as supporter’s march to INEC Hqs in Abuja
Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) on Monday led a protest against the conduct of the 2023 general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abuja.
The PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, and the Vice-Presidential Candidate of the party Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, joined Atiku and supporters of the party in the protest march to the commissions headquarters in Abuja.
Recall that the PDP and the Labour Party in a joint forum represented by their Vice-Presidential candidates Ifeanyi Okowa and Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed had rejected the results of the election before INEC declared Bola Tinubu winner of the election.
In the aftermath of the election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday, March 1, 2022, declared the All progressives Congress candidate, Bola Tinubu as the winner.
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar presented a letter seeking for cancellation of the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections. They were received by Mr Festus Okoye, national commissioner for information of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who said complaints arising from the poll will be attended to by the commission.
The protest attended by large number of party supporters kicked off from the party secretariat popularly called Wadata House located at Maitama in Abuja to express their dissatisfaction against the February 25 election believed to be rigged in favour of the presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Tinubu as they head toward the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to call for the cancellation of the elections.
Some of the high-profile attendees who wore black according to the attire of the protest are Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, National Chairman PDP, Iyrochia Ayu, Senator Olujimi, former PDP chairman Mr. Uche Secondus and some of the inscriptions on the placards read: Our Vote Must Count; We Say No Injustice and Fraud; Democracy Under Threat in Nigeria; Save Our Democracy from INEC among others.
