Women protest at NASS, House to revisit rejected bills within seven legislative days
Women groups protesting the rejection of gender bills by the two chambers of the National Assembly on Tuesday gained access into the first gate.
Security operatives are preventing them from moving further.
The women insisted on being addressed by the leadership of the parliament over their demands, a revisit of the five gender bills, instead of three.
The women said they are determined not to settle for less.
Top on their demand is the reconsideration and passage of the clause seeking additional seats for women at state and federal Parliaments.
The House of Representatives in response on Tuesday promised to revisit the gender bills earlier rejected.
Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, the House leader made the promise while addressing protesting women at the National Assembly.
The Speaker’s delegation appealed to the women groups to sheath their swords and stop the daily protest.
The women agreed to suspend their daily protest to allow the two chambers to fulfill their promise of revisiting the bills in the next two weeks.
