Remains of late madam Ekanem Ani interred in Calabar

The late Madam Ekanem Ani Offiong was interment Friday September 6 at the Eyo Ita axis of Hawkins cemetery in Calabar South Local Government Area, Cross River State.

In a sermon at the funeral and thanksgiving service held in her honour at The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria (PCN), Hope Waddell Parish, Calabar, titled “drivers and junctions in life,” the Minister-in-charge, Most Rev. Theophilus Egbala who spoke through Rt. Rev. Isaac Ubi likened human beings to passengers in the vehicles of life whose fate are tied to the drivers of the vehicles they board while on life’s sojourn to their respective destinies and destinations.

Referencing Mathew 11:28 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest,” described human existence in the world as passengers and commuters who often experience disruptions caused by traffics which some of the times result in accident due to human error and sometimes causing untimely death.

He posited that when Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of our faith is the driver and God the vehicle, all would be well from the point of embarking on the journey of life which begins from conception to delivery, premature stage to maturity. According to him, there is bound to be peace, progress and safe arrival at designated destinations if Jesus is on board. He admonished the living to be weary of the kind of vehicles they board in their life journeys and the driver of the vehicle saying that God’s thought for us in not evil but good to bring us to an expected end citing Jeremiah 11:29.

Elder Prof. Offiong Ani Offiong, brother to the deceased on behalf of the family said though his tribute at the funeral described the sudden demise of Ekanem as tragic, “A shining star has faded, leaving an infallible void in our lives. My dear Ekanem, your passing has left me with a heart full of sorrow and memories full of joy. Your love, laughter, and light will never be forgotten, though your time with us was limited. The impact of your life will be felt for generations to come. You may be gone, but your memory will live on in our hearts and your spirit will continue to guide us”.
