ROYAL FATHER CALLS FOR DREDGING OF CALABAR RIVER

The Head of Ishie Clan in Calabar Municipal Local Government of Cross River State and former Chief Pilot with Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) His Royal Highness, Etubom Effiom Okom Effiom, has call for dredging of the Calabar river to allow big Cargo vessels to berth in the port in order to give life to the economy of the nation’s first capital as well as impacting on the economies of the South-South, South-East and North Central States.

The monarch posited that dredging of the channel could transform the economy of the Niger Delta region and enhance commercial activities around the three hubs- Calabar Free Trade Zone, Tinapa and Calabar Port.  He sid this tripod  could transform the state and grow her maritime economy, offering employment to the teaming un-employed youths who have now vent their anger on government through the ongoing #EndSARS protest.

He advised the state government to consider as a matter of urgency ways to amicably resolve the impasse bedeviling the abandoned project in order to fast track the economic development of the state. This he stressed would facilitate actualization of the vision of the pioneer Free Trade Zone in the country.
