The paramount ruler of Akamkpa Local Government Area in Cross River State, HRH Ntufam Clement Emayip has frowned at the attitude of SETRACO construction company Ltd, the contracting firm handling Calabar-Ekang road project, over failure to remedy hazard caused by flood water to buildings and total blackouts in Mfamosing and adjourning communities due to downing of electric poles by the company.
Ntufam Emayip lamented in his palace that despite appeals to the site workers to find solution to the menace, they have instead compounded the problem by their ongoing activities.
He proposed the construction of a link road from Oban to Akamkpa main town as buffer to address the inconveniences experienced by commuters following the ongoing road construction around Calabar, Ekang and Mfamosing axis.
Also, the Acting village Head of Abiati in Ojuk Clan in Akamkpa L.G.A is agitated over the failure of a cement company which earlier indicated interest to establish a cement plant in the community in 2016 urging them to make good the promise. He said the development has dampened their hope of benefiting from the project for over five years now.
Ntufam Dominic Effiong Bassey bared his mind in a chat with LENS Reporter saying they may be compelled to source for another company who may be willing to explore the rich limestone deposit in the community to attract development to the Area. He used the opportunity to solicit assistance from relevant authorities.
However, effort by LENS Reporter to talk with the project manager at the Ekong Anaku Junction Camp Office, Federal Controller of works, the Supervising government ministry in Calabar on the issues raised was abortive at the time of filing this report.
