Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem elected Speaker CRSHA; fmr. lawmaker counsels son after induction as member

The member representing Ikom II State Constituency and a second term lawmaker, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem has been elected speaker of the 10th Cross River State assembly. He was the sole nominee for the position after the clerk read the proclamation sent by Governor Bassey Otu.

Also, his counterpart in the Obudu State Constituency and first term law-maker, Hon. Sylvester Agabi was elected Deputy Speaker.

The member representing Etung Constituency, Hon. Kingsley Ntui nominated Hon. Ayambem while the member representing Bakassi Constituency, Hon. Eyo Okon Edet seconded the nomination.

The Clerk while relying on the rules of the Assembly then declared Hon. Ayambem as the speaker of the Assembly. Afterwards, the member representing Calabar Municipality Constituency, Hon. Stanley Nsemo nominated his fellow first term member from Obudu, Hon. Sylvester Agabi as Deputy Speaker.

After taking their Oath of offices, they went on recess and resumed shortly afterwards with the speaker reading letters from APC and PDP with details of the leadership of the house.

They are; Hon. Bassey Asuquo, Majority Leader (Odukpani, APC), Rt. Hon. Davies Etta (Abi, APC) Deputy Majority Leader, Rt. Hon. Hilary Bisong (Boki II, APC), Chief Whip, Rt. Hon. Ovat Agbor Obubra I, APC, Deputy Chief Whip.

Hon. Abang Neji, (Ikom I, PDP) Minority Leader, Hon. Charles Omang (Bekwarra PDP) Minority Whip, Hon. Achadu Martins (Yala II, PDP) Deputy Minority Whip.

After all proceedings the announcement was made, Rt. Hon. Etta moved the motion for plenary to be adjourned till Tuesday, June 27, 2023 which was seconded by the member representing Akamkpa I Constituency, Hon.Okon Owuna.

Meanwhile, the member representing Obubra II State Constituency, Hon Egbe Abeng Egbe in Cross River State House of Assembly has been admonished by his father and former House of Assembly member Hon. Abeng Egbe aka “JABENGO” to continue with the good legacy he left while in the state legislature.

from where he stopped while in the legislature to impact people of his constituency positively.

Hon. Egbe Jabengo as he is fondly called was given the admonition at a reception after his inauguration on Tuesday June 13, 2023 at Naks Hotel and Towers in Calabar, Cross River State.

The occasion which was attended by people from all walks of life in Obubra Local Government Area was graced by dignitaries of Obubra extraction in positions of authority in the state and beyond.

In his goodwill message at the event the former permanent Secretary, Special Duties, office of the Governor on Security in Cross River State, Dr. Alfred Mboto, urged Hon. Egbe Abeng to be a true representative of his people and attract tangible projects to impact the lives of his people who are already impoverished.

Dignitaries at the well attended event were the Clan Head of Okum Kingdom in Obubra Local Government Area and Ohorodo (I) of Okum Kingdom, HRH Robert Mbina-Mbina, Mr. Chimaroke Obia, PA to Hon Abeng, Mr. Egbe Abina Egbe, Mr. Enang Ibingha Oyoma, Chief Ogiri Ogiri, the Palace Chief, Mr. Victor Okim Enang, Business man and politician, Dr. Elucate Okora Ekom and Mr. Ogaji Kwukanum, Media Adviser to Hon. Egbe Abeng who assured of his principal’s zeal to leverage on his pedigree to take Obubra II state constituency to the next level of development.
