Ruto declines signing the 2024 financial bill after protest death climb following military crack down during parliament invasion
Kenya’s President William Ruto has declined Wednesday to sign the 2024 financial bill. He announced this while briefing the media saying the people of Kenya have spoken and he will not go against the wish of the people.
In a frank speech he delivered on Wednesday, Ruto sympathized with the youths that lost their lives saying it was needless. He said the bill will be sent back to the parliament for further amendment with options to defer to subsequent year or discard it.
Meanwhile, Kenya anti-tax protest death climb to 13 according to official, after anti-tax hike rallies turned violent and police opened fire at demonstrators who invaded parliament.
The unprecedented scenes that left parts of parliament ablaze and injured scores of people aside death on Tuesday have shocked Kenyans and prompted President William Ruto’s government to deploy the military.
The mainly youth-led rallies began mostly peacefully last week, with thousands of demonstrators marching in the capital Nairobi and across the country against the tax increases witnessed initial 5 deaths.
