“Saint Valentine Died for Sake of Love” _ Etokeren
Apostle Cyprian Etokeren, General Overseer of the Light of Salvation Church, Ebiet Okon in Akpabuyo Local Government Area, Cross River State has revealed that saint Francis of Assisi known as Saint Valentine was executed for wedding young men who were supposed to go to war and so people should not misinterpret the value he attached to true love.
He made the comment in a sermon to commemorate Valentine day service. He read from 1st John 4 vs 9 saying agape love is superior to erotic, philia or pretense which make people commit in some instance, heinous crimes out of blind jealousy and hate.
He urged people to eschew negative tendencies and embrace instead, sincere love by forgiving those who offend them and assisting individuals in need without expecting gratification in return.
The occasion also featured the launch of a book titled “story Time” by a 12-year-old, Miss Esther Akaninyene Sunday, a JSS 2 student of Aye High School in Calabar whose birthday is on Valentine day. The event was held in the church auditorium and the children choir which she is a member, joined in cutting the cake.
