SEMA DG collaborates Environment Ministry to mitigate flooding in Cross River State

As residents of Cross River State continue to count their losses and lament damages caused by flood to farms and properties due to the heavy rains witnessed in the state, the Director General of State Emergency Management Agency, (SEMA) Apostle (Dr.) James Anam has appealed to citizens and the Cross River State Ministry of Environment to stop people from dumping refuse into drains which he said is one of the key reasons that is responsible for flooding.

Apostle (Dr.) Anam while launching an ongoing Radio jingle titled “WATER-NO-GET-ENEMY” opined that though water is a source of life and catalyst to survival of humans, plants, and animals, it could as well become a disadvantage if unjustly disrupted.

Recall the Cross River State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Moses Osogi had directed the Director of Floods Prevention in the Ministry, Engr. Greg Undie to dismantle a blockade to free flow of water at Prof. Ene Obong Crescent said to have emanated from Cross River State House of Assembly Parliamentary Village in Ekorinim I, Calabar Municipal Council Area.

The response was sequel to the SOS to Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Moses Osogi from Mr. Dickson Kanu Obo, the care-taker of the plot occupied by one Frank Edet whose farm and property was badly damaged.

SEMA D.G Anam while fielding questions from newsmen in Calabar on Saturday August 10, 2024 said the advertorial on popular private Radio Station, Hit 95.9 FM is the proactive response by the Environment Ministry to mitigate flooding thereby preventing future occurrences of flood disasters in the State.
