SEMA DG commiserate victims of fire incidences in Cross River
The Director General of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Rev. James Anam has sympathized with victims of fire incidence in the state.
Rev. Anam said this on Wednesday January 31, 2024 at the scene of fire incident in Edibedibe/Abua streets axis in Calabar South Local Government Area, Cross River State where a mysterious fire destroyed properties worth millions of naira the previous night and promised to present their case to the State Government for assistance and before the South-South Zonal Coordinator of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for relief materials.
The State Director of Fire Service Mr. Sylvester Ndifon had appealed to the state government to give approval for the recruitment of some trainees they have in the reserve list conducted last year and speedy provision of equipment to tackle the recurring cases of fire incidents in the state.
Meanwhile, Mr. Edet Pius, the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure in a radio broadcast on Hit 95.9 FM Radio in Calabar on Wednesday, January 31 disclosed that the Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu has given approval to his memo for the revamping and equipping of fire stations in the state.
It would be recalled that the Cross River State House of Assembly (CRSHA) Deputy Speaker and member representing Abi State Constituency Rt. Hon. Davies Eta had earlier as a matter of urgent importance on the floor of the House called on the government to resuscitate fire stations in the state and provide them with requisite equipment, tools and personnel to tackle the numerous fire incidences in the state as was the cases at Songhai farm in Itigidi and Steady Flow College of Education, Akparabong in Ikom.
