Senate president to commission multimillion naira mini sports centre in A’Ibom community

Nigeria’s Senate President, Ahmed Lawan will be commissioning a multimillion naira sports complex built by Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, representing Uyo senatorial district in the upper legislative chamber.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman, central planning committee for the thanksgiving service of Chief Okon Usung, which is slated for January 30th.

The multipurpose composite sports facility located in Ifa Ikot Akpan community in Uyo local government area is among the constituency projects of Senator Akpan to be commissioned during the thanksgiving service.

According to the release, the state governor, Udom Emmanuel alongside the PDP national Chairman Senator Iyorchia Ayu, would be among other distinguished guests to grace the commissioning of the project.

The complex which would also serve as a community and youth development centre is located on two acres of land on the outskirts of Uyo metropolis along the airport road.

Also billed for inauguration in the community is a 1.3km road project facilitated as well by Senator Akpan.

The multi-million naira complex has a standard football field, basketball pitch, lawn tennis court, and a 1,500 capacity event centre. The complex also has an ICT hub, a dedicated transformer, and a water treatment facility.

Other components in the facility include a bar, restaurant, and a solar power support system.

According to the statement, the aim of building the mini sports complex by Senator Akpan is to serve as a hub for promoting sporting activities and other recreational activities among the people in the community.
