South African envoy wants closer business synergy with Nigeria
The Consul General of the Republic of South Africa in Lagos, Dr. Bobby J. Moroe has called for closer ties in business transaction between Nigeria and the people of the rainbow nation.
Moroe made the plea in his opening speech at an interactive session during a courtesy visit to the office of the Hon. Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in Cross River Barrister (Mrs.) Rosemary Archibong in Calabar on Tuesday, April 4th 2023.
The parley held in the conference room of the ministry was attended by executive members of the Calabar Chamber of Commerce Industry, Mines and Agriculture (CALCCIMA) led by Mr. Kenneth Asim. Attendees included captains of industry, special Adviser to the Governor on Events and Tourism, Mr. Thomas Ikpeme, DG of the Cross River Investment Promotion Council and Deputy (Governorship Candidate of National Rescue Movement (NRM) in the just concluded March 18th 2023 Governorship and State House of Assembly Elections), Mr. Mathias Amgbah who doubles as Private Sector Consultant to CALCCIMA among other dignitaries at the occasion held at Prof. Eyo Ita House along Marian Road in Calabar.
Responding the Hon. Commissioner for Commerce and Industry said that South Africa and Nigeria have a common tie that dates back to the apartheid era and our support for black freedom in the areas of music, cultural heritage and industry of the rainbow nation.
Cross River State which is rich in culture and tourism will leverage on the relationship with South Africa. The annual Calabar carnival, ecosystem like the Obudu cattle ranch and wild-life reserves as well as solid minerals deposit that abound in the state with mining the commissioner asked for a seamless visa process to visit South Africa to facilitate partnership and synergy.
Another proposal is a bilateral relationship between Nigeria and South Africa in agro processing for export to generate employment and boost revenue.
