Spinal cord patient seeks N3m medical assistance from A’Ibom government, public

A 38-year old woman, Elizabeth Udofia, has appealed to the Akwa Ibom State government for the sum of N3million to enable her to bankroll her spinal cord medical bill sustained in a fatal accident in 2012.

She as well calls on corporate organizations and well-meaning individuals to come to her assistance.

Elizabeth, a 2010 graduate of Accounting from the University of Calabar, Cross River state told journalists Tuesday in Uyo that the said amount would enable her to undergo a surgical operation.

According to her, she sustained the injury after involving in an auto crash in October 2012 while traveling in a commercial bus (Agofure Motors) from Warri to Asaba in Delta state, adding that she along with other passengers who sustained injuries were rushed to Ozora General Hospital in Delta where she was admitted for seven days and discharged.

And from the medical report, she presented issued by Ibom Specialist Hospital, Uyo, dated April 12, 2021, Elizabeth has tenderness along the lumbar spine and significant impairment in her gait.

MRI report showed multilevel disc degeneration with disc prolapse at L4/L5 with central and foraminal stenosis. A diagnosis of L4/L5 Disc prolapse with radiculopathy and instability was made.

She said, “The pains came up again and become more severe when I got involved in another auto crash early this year, this is the reason I resort to seeking help from the public to help me undergo operations so as to be well again and useful to myself and the society”.
