Stakeholders in Cross River champion forgiveness, reconciliation in the spirit of Easter
As Christians all over the world continue to celebrate Easter following the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Cross Riverians have risen in one voice to call for forgiveness and genuine reconciliation especially after the recent Presidential/National Assembly and Governorship/State Assembly elections in the country.
In a radio broadcast on Hit 95.9 FM monitored on Sunday 9, 2023, the former Presidential Adviser and Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress APC and Legal Luminary from Yakkurr Local Government Area in the Central Senatorial District of Cross River State, Chief Okoi Obono Obla has condemned in strong terms the recent acts of brigandage in Nsofan community in Etung Local Government Area of the State by some disgruntled individuals.
Mr. Mathias Akpelishi Amgbah, Former Deputy Governorship Candidate of National Rescue Movement (NRM) in the recently concluded March 18, 2023 elections corroborated the view of Obla while fielding questions from newsmen on Monday April 10, 2023. He appealed for calm from both sides of the political divide and called for Cross Riverians to forgive one another from the pains inflicted on persons, parties and groups during the election and should imbibe true spirit of reconciliation as our lord and Saviour Jesus Christ did by offering to die on the Cross to atone for the sins of mankind and reconcile humanity back to God.
Recently, Governor Ben Ayade has appealed to the Governor-elect, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu to be magnanimous in victory by carrying everybody along and run an inclusive administration in his Easter message on Sunday April 9, to Cross Riverians signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Christian Ita, Esq.
He urged those who lost at various levels of elections to concede defeat and be centripetal to create a conductive atmosphere for the in-coming government to succeed and should instead join hands to build a viable Cross River State as the tourism destination of the country.
Also, the governor-elect, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu in his Easter message broadcasted on Hit 95.9 FM on Sunday April 9, 2023 in Calabar called on Cross Riverians to come together in the spirit of Easter devoid of ethnic and political rancour to build a united state in order to trigger development.
