‘Stop this buck passing’, Akwa Ibom PDP warns APC

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has at the end of their meeting in Uyo condemned the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state of attacking the governor, saying it was time to stop the buck passing and blame games.

Earlier, APC in it’s statement had accused the PDP governors forum of being the party that has brought Nigeria’s woes to the situation the country was passing through in their 16 years in power.

In a statement signed by the PDP publicity Secretary in the state, Mr Borono Bassey and made available to Journalists in Uyo, he flayed the APC for always seeing the PDP as the cause of their inability to cure the economic and insecurity woes Nigerians are passing through.

“The All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom as a party in a bid to make comments about the just concluded PDP Governors’ Forum meeting, ended up vocalizing their deep-rooted disappointment about the failings of the President Buhari’s led administration.

“The APC in Akwa Ibom State tried to rehease their usual lines of referencing the years of the PDP rule as a flimsy retort to the nagging issue about the opacity in the remittances made by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to the Federation’s account.

“As a Party, we had long understood that one of our “oversight” duties is to constantly educate the handful of APC members on matters of patriotism, civics, the difference between politics and governance and also make efforts to lead them away from their perpetual links with propaganda and falsity towards the light of facts and truth”.

According to the PDP spokesperson in the state, the reaction of the APC regarding the Governor’s Forum’s comment on NNPC’s, CBN and other revenue generating agencies of the Federal government, was a clear ignorance on their part, that the PDP Governors were only re-echoing what was revealed by the two Chambers of the national Assembly.

“The castle of ignorance in their heads by revealing to them that for sometime now, Nigerians from all walks of life have continued to make calls for the clarity on Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC’s remittances and expenditures. For instance, the news media have been awash with reports of queries by the two chambers of the Nation’s legislature – the Senate and House of Representatives on NNPC’s remittances to the Federation account.

“Earlier this year, the Senate Committee on Public Accounts and officials from the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation had accused the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation of withholding trillions of naira due to the Federation Account. These strong allegations are contained and mirrored in the 2016 AuGF report.

“Specifically, the Senate committee and the AuGF’s office had alleged that the NNPC did not remit about N4.07 trillion to the government’s coffers. By way of a defense, the NNPC said it exploited the window that allows revenue-generating ministries, departments and agencies to spend out of the income they generate.

“What the Governors under the aegis of the PDP Governors’ Forum did was only to re-echo these popular sentiments in the interest of the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who are left to suffer untold hardships because of the paucity of funds necessitated by activities such as complained against the NNPC.

“But the APC in Akwa Ibom State in a crass display of a naked dance in a marketplace made a strenuous but failed effort to cook a broth of shame for our state by jumping to castigate the PDP Governors who were only mirroring the thoughts of millions of Nigerians.

“Apart from the NNPC, Nigerians have been following news reports about the probe by the Senate and House of Representatives on the outright failure or under-remittances by different MDAs. Therefore, the call by the PDP Governors for these MDAs to do more was well placed. A little effort by the APC in Akwa Ibom would have revealed this too! But No! To the Akwa Ibom APC, ignorance is a highly coveted medal and so they must do everything to earn some.

“As a Party, the PDP in Akwa Ibom State like other well-meaning and patriotic Nigerians, adopts the position of the Governors as captured in the Communiqué”.

The party described as tall dream by the APC when it suggested that the PDP meeting in Uyo was to facilitate the crossing of governor Udom Emmanuel to the APC, saying that such was a wishful thinking as the governor was already satisfying the people of the state under the PDP.

“We are optimistic that Nigeria will get better and we commend the PDP Governor’s Forum for making a precise diagnosis of the challenges facing the nation and also recommending ways to tackle them”.
