Tension in Niger Delta, Ateke Tom, Asari Dokubo rival Tompolo over pipeline contract; Riverine communities lamented environment pollution, Oil Spill In Delta State

The pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has caused apprehension in the Niger Delta.

Tompolo is expected to lead the protection of oil pipelines across the six South-South States – Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, and Rivers.

Despite an initial stiff stance, the President Muhammadu Buhari administration engaged Tompolo due to increasing oil theft in the region.

The deal was sealed by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Opuama, polobubo, Ogbinbrir, and Ogbudugbudu communities leaders in warri north local government are of delta state have lamented the hardship met on them by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company Ltd NPDC and other oil companies over the oil spilled and environmental pollution in their communities.

They made this know to our Asaba correspondent Akpomejero Friday in a town hall meeting put together by wetinwegain organization in sapele local government area of delta state.

The communities leader have appealed to government authority to apply Nigeria’s Petroleum Industry Act(PIA) 2021, which was recently signed into law, on the oil companies

The director of wetinwegain organization Mr Mfon Galaricl called on community leaders to make use of Nigeria’s Petroleum Industry Act(PIA) 2021 as a way for oil companies to wake up to their social cooperative responsibility to every host community across the Niger delta region.
