Tinted Glass Permit: Court stops police from enforcement
The Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, has issued an interim injunction stopping the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) from implementing or enforcing the Tinted Glass Permit Policy that was set to begin on Monday, October 6, 2025.
Key Highlights of the Ruling include:
- Interim Injunction Granted: Justice H.A. Nganjiwa restrained the Police from enforcing the policy until the court hears the main case.
- No Harassment or Arrests: The Police are barred from stopping, arresting, detaining, or impounding vehiclesbased on the tinted glass policy.
- Legal Basis: The motion was filed by John Aikpokpo-Martins, who argued that the policy is unlawful and burdensome.
- Representation: Aikpokpo-Martins was represented by a legal team led by Kunle Edun, SAN.
- Service of Court Papers: The court allowed the plaintiff to serve the Police via FedEx courier, due to difficulty with direct service.
The case (FHC/WR/CS/103/2025) has been adjourned for a hearing on the substantive motion.
Until then, the Police are legally prohibited from enforcing the tinted glass policy.
Meanwhile, the Force PRO, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said that the Police had not yet been officially served the court order.
Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong earlier posted online about the court’s decision, urging the Police to respect the order.
