Twitter agrees to all FG’s conditions after suspension_ Keyamo

The minister of state for labour and employment, Festus Keyamo, announced on live television on Monday, that microblogging platform Twitter has agreed to all of the federal government’s conditions, for its suspension in Nigeria to be lifted.

Keyamo who is a member of the committee set up by the national government to engage Twitter over the suspension said the essence of the suspension was to recalibrate Nigeria’s relationship with the microblogging site and not to drive them away from the country.

However, some observers are of the opinion that the announcement would have been done by the National Communications Commission- NCC or the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture where details that were missed out would have been given.

The federal government it would be recalled suspended Twitter in June just days after deleting “civil war” from a tweet by Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari. The line of the tweet had threatened to treat IPOB in the language they understand.

Meanwhile, in the United States, the co-founder of Twitter, Jack Dorsey on Monday stepped down as Chief Executive Officer to be replaced by Parag Agrawal who is the current Chief Technology Officer but will still remain on the board until his tenure expires in 2022.
