Two work free days for collection of PVCs in Cross River not public holidays_ Official

The newly appointed Commissioner for Information and Orientation in Cross River State, Mr. Eric Anderson has explained why Governor Ben Ayade approved Thursday 26th and Friday 27th January 2023 as work–free days to enable Civil Servants in the state to collect their PVCs and exercise their franchise on February 25 and March 11 for the Presidential/National Assembly elections and Governorship/State Assembly elections respectively.

This information was contained in a press statement signed by Mr. Anderson and emphasized that the work-free days were not public holidays and should not be seen as such as it did not warrant the closure of businesses in the state as speculated by many. He said the provision is an opportunity for those who registered at polling units in their wards to travel and collect their PVCs.

Meanwhile, some interest groups stormed the popular Watt Market on Friday 20th January 2023, and urged Nigerians to collect their permanent voter cards (PVC) to enable them to participate in the general elections.

The “VOTE NOT FIGHT –ELECTION NO BE WAR”, an initiative of 2Baba in league with the Bridge Leadership Foundation matched the major streets of Calabar, the Cross River State capital calling on Nigerians to collect their PVCs.

The group congregated at the Millennium Park by Eleven-Eleven roundabout before heading to Watt Market where they evangelized to traders and buyers on the importance of collecting their PVCs and casting their votes while discouraging vote buying and other vices that is inimical to choosing good leaders in a free, fair and credible election.

And fielding questions from newsmen, a member of the group who spoke on condition of anonymity debunked the claim that they are sponsored by a particular presidential candidate, but said on the contrary that their aim is to enlighten the electorates.
