Ummi El-Rufai Wants Punitive Bill Enacted for Rapists in Kaduna

This appeal was made on Tuesday during her visit to the State Assembly for the public hearing on the bill to amend the state Penal Code 2017 after it scaled second reading.

She expressed concern that the frequency of cases recorded in the state on daily basis especially for minors was high and stressed that only severe penalty for culprits in the state penal code will serve as deterrent to others.

Ummi then suggested either castration or death sentence for rapists, describing the act as a gross violation of the rights of women and children.

The first lady who was received on arrival at the Assembly complex by the Speaker, Yusuf Zailani disclosed that her mission was to intimate the lawmakers on the dangers of rising rape cases in the state and the need for them to hasten passage of the bill that will slam severe punishment against rapists

Specifically, the bill sought to amend section 258 of the principal law to make it more effective in protecting the citizens of the state particularly women and children against rape and other sexual vices.

And reacting to her submission, the Speaker promised to give the bill accelerated hearing that would fasten its passage into law by next week after public hearing.
