Unease in Cross River Assembly after removal of chair, House Committee Finance and Appropriation

The Cross River State House of Assembly (CRSHA) is seemingly stormy after its Speaker Hon. Elvert Ayambem, relieves Hon. Cyril Omini, Chairman House Committee on Finance and Appropriation of the office.

Honorable Omini, a Member representing Yakurr 1 State Constituency was removed over alleged misconduct which unverified source alleges cloned the Governor’s voice using artificial intelligence (AI) to extort money to the tune of 1.6 bn from a contractor in the state.

As replacement, the Speaker appointed the Member representing Akamkpa 1 State Constituency, Hon. Okon Nyong Owuna as the new Chairman of the Committee.

Ayambem, announced the appointment during plenary, stating that the appointment will further strengthen the 10th Assembly in its legislative functions.

Effort to reach Hon. Cyril Omini to get his side of the story was unsuccessful, as he is said to be presently in China.
