UNICAL don, Patrick Egaga Kidnapped

A University of Calabar lecturer Professor Patrick Egaga of the Special Education department and a member of the Panel of Investigation set up to make enquiry into the allegation of sexual harassment, abuse of office, and misconduct preferred against a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Law was kidnapped on Sunday night.

The incident took place at the University of Calabar staff quarters in Calabar.

Professor Egaga who is the director of Servicom in the the University of Calabar is saddled with the task of ensuring quality service delivery to the public of the institution.

But, barely 45 days after the report of the panel was submitted, on Friday, September 29, 2023, he was whisked away by unknown gunmen.

Newsmen confirmed this from the school’s Public Relations Officer Effiong Eyor who said: “Though I can not speak much about the issue because we have not been officially briefed, but the incident is true, he has been kidnapped.”

Police spokesperson in the State SP Irene Ugbo said though the victim’s family is yet to reported the matter to the Police, she assured:  “we are working to secure his release”.

As at the time of filing this report, the management of the institution is yet to issue an official statement.
