Unical VC parley press on 35th convocation of the University of Calabar

The University of Calabar has commenced proceeding of the 35th convocation ceremony of the institution with a press conference by the vice chancellor, Prof Florence Banku Obi on Monday May 1st 2023 at the Senate chambers.

The 35th convocation lecture titled “The leadership and Followership Question in Nigeria”, Imperative of Ethical Re-orientation would be delivered by the chief of staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari (CFR), a renowned Diplomat, seasoned Researcher, an accomplished academician and administrator per excellence at the Unical international Conference Centre.

Also, there would be an investiture of the 6th chancellor of the University of Calabar, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero who is the current Emir of Kano after paying courtesy calls on Governor Ben Ayade and the Obong of Calabar His Eminence Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu (V).

Honorary Doctorate Degree would be awarded to the former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and investiture of Emeritus Professor and induction into Unical Alumni hall of fame.

There will be a staff meritorious service award to encourage and appreciate some staff of the university who have proved their mettle in their assigned duty and impacted positively on the progress of the institution. There would be a command performance at the Chinua Achebe New Arts Theatre to be proceeded by a Research Fair and Exhibition at the Tennis court. This activity would seal the convocation scheduled to hold at Abraham Ordia Stadium on Saturday May 6th 2023.

Prof. Obi disclosed that there will be a thanksgiving service to return all the glory to God Almighty at St. Paul Parish, Unical on Sunday 7th May 2023.

She disclosed as well while fielding question from press men that the University of Calabar has been nominated to host the 2026 NUGA games and appealed for sponsorship of the event to put necessary facilities on ground to host the epoch making sports event otherwise the Ahamdu Bello University (ABU) will take the opportunity.

The media parley was moderated by the Cross River State chapter of the NUJ. Mr. Nsa Gill during an interaction at the occasion attended by principal officers of the University and members of the Academic staff Union of the Universities (ASUU) commended the Vice Chancellor for establishing the Unical Campus Radio Station on 103.5 FM.
