UNICROSS VC commends staff at 2025 staff week celebration
The Vice Chancellor of University of Cross River State Professor Francisca Bassey have commended staff of the institution for their commitment to service delivery amidst challenges.
She made the comment in her opening address to kick off activities at the new cafeteria where she reveals that the staff week is the product of deliberate planning and visionary thinking by the management team under her leadership.
This historic gesture, unprecedented in the annals of the institution, marks a defining moment in the relationship between the University leadership and its personnel. What had often been overlooked in the past—the morale and general welfare of those who work behind the scenes to uphold the institution has now been brought to the forefront under her guidance.
The week-long celebration featured a series of engaging and thoughtful activities designed not only to appreciate staff contributions, but also to foster a sense of unity and rejuvenation among them. Among the scheduled events were professional talks, comprehensive health check-ups, a fitness walk, a friendly football match, a joint staff-student awards session, and a grand evening of dinner and entertainment.
The official launch of the programme took place on Thursday, July 31st, 2025, at the University Cafeteria.
Addressing staff during the opening ceremony, Professor Bassey expressed her personal commitment to ensuring their physical and emotional wellness. With sincerity and warmth, she encouraged all present to make use of the medical services made available, stating, “Your health is very important to me—that’s why I brought the medical team. Please check your vitals. If you need anything further, I will personally make the necessary arrangements.”
She went on to emphasize that her administration will not relent in its drive to enhance the institution’s health facilities, declaring that the University Medical Centre will soon receive the attention and resources it deserves.
“I want to see every one of you healthy, active and full of life. I don’t want to bury any of my staff. You all deserve to live well and thrive,” she added.
Later that day, the mood shifted from formality to celebration, as staff members were treated to an exclusive evening at Hogis Royale. The event served as a symbolic conclusion to a day that began with expressions of gratitude and ended in genuine camaraderie.
The event will wind down with a thanksgiving service at the St. Joseph Catholic Chaplaincy, Unicross Parish, Calabar.
