University don commends commissioner for clean environment
The reintroduction of the monthly sanitation exercise by the Cross River State Ministry of Environment in Senator Prince Bassey Otu’s administration has attracted commendation from Prof. Offiong Ani, a lecturer in the University of Calabar and Professor of language and Linguistics.
Prof. Ani while fielding questions from newsmen on Thursday, 1st February, 2024 on the sidelines of the 8th Anniversary of Hit 95.9FM radio station in Calabar said though the Commissioner’s effort is commendable, Frequency Modulation (FM) the pioneer private radio station should complement government effort by streaming programmes that promote clean environment.
He used the forum to thank Hon. Moses Osogi, the State Commissioner for Environment for offering to compensate the cleanest streets with cash prize to stimulate healthy competition to keep the environment clean.
The monthly sanitation is held every last Saturday of the month with movements of human and business activities restricted from 7am to 10am and the Commissioner personally supervising evacuation of refuse to waste dumps.
