Unknown gunmen torch Country home of Igbo Socio-Cultural Group President

The Country home of Professor George Obiozor, the President General of apex Igbo socio-cultural group Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Aso-mamma community in Oru-east local government area of Imo state has been razed by gunmen in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The hoodlums who are yet to be identified reportedly came in a convoy of cars were spotted throwing explosives at the house on Saturday morning.

The former ambassador was not at home at the time of the attack but it was captured on the CCTV cameras installed in the compound.

Obiozor had yet to respond to an inquiry concerning the attack but one of the leaders of Ohanaeze Ndigbo who does not want to be mentioned said that he had called Obiozor to commiserate with him on the incident.

Confirming the incident to AIT, the Public relations officer of the Imo state police command, Mike Abattam says the hoodlums who came in vehicles threw petrol bombs in the house damaging properties. He adds that no life was lost and no one was injured as Professor Obiozor was not in the house when the incident happened.

Abattam says the Commissioner of Police Rabiu Hussaini has deployed all tactical teams to the area to maintain law and order while the investigation into the incident has already commenced.

The attack on Obiozor’s country home came the same night the Umuguma Divisional Police Headquarters in the Owerri West LGA of the state was burnt with two police constabularies killed and cars burnt.
