Updated: Presidential flagbearer receive Shekarau back to PDP, Shekarau promises to deliver Kano state to Atiku
A former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau has formally returned to the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) after a spell at the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP).
Shekarau moved to the NNPP with a host of his supporters on the 18th of May, following a disagreement with the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, over the control of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state.
The former governor promised to work to ensure the success of the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku, not only in Kano but in all the states of the federation.
Recall that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, and national leaders of the party were in Kano on Monday to receive the Senator representing Kano Central, Ibrahim Shekarau, and his political associates back to the party.
Shekarau had, in 2019, dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Congress.
He was subsequently elected into the Senate on the ruling party’s platform.
However, he fell out with Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and defected to the New Nigeria People’s Party where he only spent a few months in the new party before his relationship with Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso went sour after some staunch loyalists of the Senator did not get NNPP tickets to contest elective positions in the forthcoming general elections.
