US intelligence sharing suspension with Ukraine nears overlooking Saudi Arabia meeting
US President Donald Trump says the United States has “just about” lifted its pause on intelligence sharing with Ukraine, and expressed expectations over upcoming talks for a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.
Trump was responding to questions from reporters on Sunday.
The US had halted intelligence sharing with Kyiv following a summit between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy last month, which developed into a heated exchange.
US and Ukrainian officials are scheduled to meet in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. Washington has announced that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz plan to attend.
Zelenskyy has said the Ukrainian delegation will include Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and the head of the presidential office, Andriy Yermak.
Trump expressed optimism about the meeting saying, “You’re going to have some pretty good results coming out of Saudi Arabia this week.”
Reuters news agency quoted US officials as saying that the US delegation plans to determine from Tuesday’s meeting whether Ukraine is serious about improving ties with the Trump administration, and if the country is ready to make concessions to end the fighting.
