US media says Iranian attack on Israel ‘imminent’ as Biden pledges ‘ironclad’ support for Israel’s security

Bloomberg, a US media outlet on Wednesday cited multiple officials as saying the US and its allies believe major missile or drone strikes by Iran or its proxies against military and government targets in Israel are imminent.

Iran’s embassy in Syria came under missile attack on April 1 and several Iranian military officers were killed in the attack on the embassy compound in Damascus. Seven military officers, including Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commanders, were killed, along with six Syrian civilians.

US news website Axios on Wednesday quoted multiple Israeli government officials as saying the senior US military commander in charge of the Middle East is expected to visit Israel on Thursday to “coordinate around a possible attack on Israel by Iran and its proxies.”

But US President Joe Biden has stressed his country’s “ironclad” support for Israel, after Iran vowed to retaliate for the recent deadly strike on the Iranian embassy in Syria.

Biden said at a news conference on Wednesday: “Our commitment to Israel’s security against these threats from Iran and its proxies is ironclad. Let me say it again, ironclad. We’re going to do all we can to protect Israel’s security.”
