WAFU B Qualifiers: Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens secure a win over Ghana’s Police Ladies
Nigeria’s Women’s Football League Premiership champions, Bayelsa Queens opened their campaign in the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B Qualifiers with a 2–1 victory over Ghana’s Police Ladies at the Stade Charles Konan Banny in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire Sunday.
Pitched against Ghanaian league champions, the Prosperity Girls did not show any tension dominating proceeding and were not threatened by their opponents for the most part of the encounter.
Shakirat Moshood put Bayelsa Queens ahead in the 12th minute from a beautifully planned counter attack and Emem Essien extended the lead with a wonder strike in the 62nd minute.
Though Ghana’s Mary Berko replied quickly, scoring at the 67th minute for Police Ladies to ensure a nervy finish, Bayelsa Queens held on to begin the qualifiers with the three points at stake.
They will be up against ASKO Kara of Togo next on Wednesday, 27th August with the Nigerian flag bearers setting their sights on securing qualification for the semi-final early.
